I noticed this morning while driving into work something that peaked my interest. As I pulled onto the highway (which was backed up) there is a long merge lane. I go with the philosophy in traffic that is slowed to take the merge lane until its time to merge. This maximizes what I have always known to be the zipper effect.
Today, a trucker was blocking the merge lane. (Lukcily I was right in front). He was ruining the merge. I’m not sure if he was angry at cars trickling past home or had some pent up frustration with traffic but I know it was ruining the zipper effect.
I watched him. He did it on the next merge and then the next.
What drives people to block regular traffic patterns? It’s not like anyone was breaking the rules?
I think people need to relax a little more and realize that getting one car ahead in heavy traffic won’t make or break your day.

I came across this photo in my library. I forgot I had taken it. I’m no photo expert but sometimes I see what I think is a good shot. This photo screams out peace and tranquility to me. It also seems very Americana.

Here in the midwest we got dumped with snow.

I woke up in the morning and said to myself “hmmm…there’s a couple of inches of snow on the driveway. I better go ahead and shovel it.”

A couple hours later after goofing off in the house I looked outside. “hmmm…snow and wind have covered up the driveway…better go push off the snow.”

A couple hours later after an afternoon nap I looked outside and thought “Son of a motherless goat! Damn wind! Stupid snow drifts! I just shoveled this driveway!” I fought through the soreness and shoveled the driveway.

Later that night I took a look outsite. “Son of a b!@#!$tch What the f!@#!k!!! Go! Da!@#!@#$m MOTHER F!@#$!CKWQER!” I went outside and froze my arse off shoveling the driveway.”

In the morning I woke up at about 5am and looked outside. “Holy F@#$@king sh1t! More snow. No surprise here!” I shoveled it.

That was the last of it. Where are the global warming advocates now? Seems cold outside to me!

I am sick of all these fancy new technologies out there that everyone needs to have. What is the cost of technology?

  • $60 cell plan
  • $60 cable
  • $60 internet

…maybe you get it bundled for $100. That seems expensive to me?

If you could just get rid of $60 and spent it somewhere else here are some things you could get everymonth!

….or maybe some more items priced off the top of my head

  • 60 iTunes a month
  • massage a month
  • 100 white castles a month
  • iPod a month
  • 4 cd’s (old school) a month
  • bucket of chicken every sunday (mmmm….fatty foods)

…maybe get a little wierd

  • you could make a giant bean burrito out of 60 regular bean burritos every month
  • buy a pellit gun and shoot out cheap dinnerware every month
  • get a new tattoo a month
  • go to the library and checkout enough books to rack up $60 in library fines a month and see there expression when you return them all.

A couple days ago I checked out War of the World’s from the local branch of the library. (I am too cheap to rent from a video store or use some fancy pants Net Flix.)

Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Starring: Tom Cruise

I remember people panning this movie and I thought I would to but then I really enhored it. Besides the aliens, the movie doesn’t really match the book but that didn’t matter. The action was good (good action means less need for acting) and the special effects were believable. It really seemed like that’s how it would be if such a war. Some parts really put me in the moment.

Still, there is cheese but you can get past it. It’s a recommended rental.

For years, I have been using those store bought spices that come on sale. The ones you see at Wal-Mart or sometimes at Target. Today, we took a trip on the train to Oak Park to a Penzey’s store and I bought a few spices. I bought some peppercorns, smoked paprika, garlic salt and chipotle powder. Every thing looks good. I will have to report back to see if the more “expensive” spices taste better.

I think a good rib rub will be the first contestant.

I remember sitting around the TV at age 12 watching the Bear’s wondering what the hell was going on but also knowing in my heart that it was something special. The ‘85 Bears hold a special spot in my heart. I recommend for anyone to get on you tube and watch the super bowl special. That’s good stuff.

Will the Bear’s do it again this year? I get nervous thinking about it. They make me so angry when they play poorly. If they lose the first playoff game again there will be tears on my pillow. Don’t make me cry! I’m a grown man for Pete’s sake!
